Summer family photo shoots in the North East of England

Wednesday, July 02, 2014

In case you missed all of that sunshine through the windows of late, it's Summer, my favourite non coat wearing time of year.  It's certainly a brilliant time to be a Newcastle Photographer!

I love summer in all of it's splendour and it's a glorious time of year to have a family or kids photo shoot in lots of beautiful places all over the North East of England, from sunny Northumbrian beaches to green parks or urban spaces there's really no limit to the amount of spaces and places you could have your family/couples or kids photo shoot and yes of course you should bring your doggy, they're part of the family too and just in case you missed it, I'm quite doggy friendly thanks to our rescue husky Petunia!

So where will you choose for your summer family photo shoot?

Here's just a few ideas...

remember the summer means you can have evening photo shoots, the light is utterly yummy in the evenings and who does exciting stuff during boring working weekdays?  Have a photo shoot and have some summer evening fun!

Looby is with me most photo shoots for assisting purposes, she's a very handy, dandy girl to know, you know!

and if it rains, well you can just bring an umbrella!

Jesmond Dene, Tynemouth, the Quayside, even Seaburn or Roker in Sunderland are all pretty in the sunshine

Dress up, dress down, come on your own or bring the entire family

So hopefully there's plenty of ideas there but you probably want to know about the pricing and that's only right so here you go -

£40 gets you a 1 hour photo shoot, a 12x8 complimentary print, a web gallery for 30 days and 15% off if you order within the first 7 days your gallery is live, further prints start at just £10 for a 7x5, £13 for a 10x8 and £15 for a 12x8 and I sell a full range of prints, frames, canvases, digital images and photo gifts.

Now there's just 1 thing, over the next few months I am travelling a lot because in case you've just landed on this page and don't know, I'm writing a book about the 69 cities of the UK so all I'd ask is book as far ahead as you can, this week I've taken bookings for September and October!  Don't worry if you're not that organised, I can usually find times to squeeze people in on weekdays, weekends are obviously the busiest times but don't let that stop you from emailing to find out what I can do.

Philomenas Boutique, Portraits and Personal things, what we got up to this week...

Monday, March 31, 2014

It's Monday again dear reader, how in the heck did that happen, it only seems a few days since it was last Monday... those little time pixies have been on the march again, I have a feeling I've lost at least an hour somewhere ;)

So, anyway work has continued at Philomena's Boutique I've been adding all manner of delectable fine art photographic prints to the store and from today you can even choose your size so if you want 7x5, 8x10 or 12x8 they're in there for your delight.  The great thing about photographic flowers is that I get to surround myself with vases and jugs of them.

Here's just a couple of the prints available for purchase -

and here's a quick Instagram of some of them in my lovely Cath Kidston Jug

I think it's probably a good thing I have surrounded myself with them because the weather is grim, while part of the country basks in 20c we're stuck in a perpetual fog or as I like to call it a vintage mist!

I'm quite lucky though because actually the flat light of the mist is perfect for my style of photography and I was down at Tynemouth Longsands on Saturday where I got to create these gorgeous portraits

If you would like to book a photo shoot I should probably warn you that it's very busy right now, my weekend is just about full for next weekend, I can fit in 1 photo shoot on Sunday at Jesmond Dene at 11am, if you think you might like the slot it's £40 for the hours photo shoot and I can photograph your family, your kids, the love of your life, pretty much anything (within reason, haha).  To book you can contact me through my website or email

Yesterday of course was mothers day and all of those gorgeous scenic days out were pretty much fruitless because of the mist but we had a very misty walk around the lake at Druridge Bay, did I mention it's been mainly a pea soup in Newcastle this weekend?

To contact me about anything you can find me on the web in these lovely places

Seahouses, a perfect weekend

Sunday, June 13, 2010

We've just got back from Seahouses, it's only 50 miles away on the coast of Northumberland and takes us less than an hour to reach.  If you know me by now you'll know I love to get away but it's usually never less than a 3 or 4 hour journey so when I heard about Breakwater Cottage  I had my reservations, I mean we go to Seahouses quite often and I actually have a family portrait shoot on the beach at Seahouses this Wednesday!!  I spoke to the owner of Breakwater though and what sealed the deal was the 50"Plasma TV for hubby to watch the England world cup match yesterday evening,  this weekend was his Fathers Day present since next weekend I'll be shooting a huge wedding.

Breakwater Cottage is a luxury holiday cottage and everything has been thought of, it's quite a large cottage and plenty of room for us to amble about in, the beds gave us the best nights sleep ever and I loved sitting in the back garden listening to the birds and the lambs.

I actually took my DSLR this weekend and used it yesterday to capture some special moments, here's a few favourites and if you fancy snooping on the whole set just click on through to the album on Facebook.

On a boat to the Farne Islands, we were so lucky to see plenty of Puffins, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Oyster Catchers and the rare Grey seal who all colonise the Farne Islands.

Back on land and we enjoyed a drink or two at the superb Bamburgh Castle Hotel while the kids played happily!

In the evening Abigail and her daddy had a world cup party while Looby and I went down to the rockpools and beach to explore and enjoy some time on our own.

It really was the perfect day...

Izzy, the most gorgeous little whirlwind in the north [childrens photographer northumberland]

Sunday, February 22, 2009

On Friday I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Izzy who as the title of the blog may suggest is the most gorgeous little whirlwind in the north.

She has a huge personality and is so clever, she can count and she's not even 2 yet!

She loves trains, especially Thomas!

this is a look that says "I bet that photographer lady can't catch me"

with mum Alison who runs one of the most fabulous online houseware companies, seriously check out Hunky Dory Home, the stuff is, well if you like me then you'll like the stuff, it's craft inspired and there are a lot of funky retro chic prints, you might want to lock your purses away first of course ;-)

reading sticker books is one of Izzys favourite pastimes.

I love how serious she looks here, it's almost American gothic! ha ha

I am really looking forward to catching up with Izzy, Alison and Karl in the warmer weather to get outdoors for some fantastic and funkadelic family shots.
